Natural Treatment For Acid Reflux
Are there effective home remedies for acid reflux, GERD & LPR?
Effective natural treatment for acid reflux IS possible.
Even without the use of antacids and Proton Pump Inhibitors!
Both GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) & LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux) can be treated with diet, lifestyle and natural treatment. But not ALL acid reflux natural remedies are safe and effective.
Can I guarantee that natural treatment for acid reflux will work for everyone? No.
But most people see significant improvements in digestive function, and dramatic reduction or elimination of their symptoms.
Additionally, naturopathic medicine offers options for preventing complications of GERD & LPR or progression to esophageal (or laryngeal) cancer.
These remedies support normal digestive function, heal the lining of the stomach and esophagus, support the nervous system, and effectively manage symptoms. However, there are some heartburn home remedies that may not be safe or effective. Therefore, it’s a good idea for you to consult with a licensed professional when selecting remedies.

What about an acid reflux cure, using home remedies for GERD?
And what is good for heartburn?
People often ask about things like apple cider vinegar and baking soda as natural cures for acid reflux.
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is often suggested as a cure for just about everything. I don’t recommend it for GERD or LPR sufferers.
Many so-called experts will tell you that GERD acid reflux is caused by low stomach acid. They say that ACV will increase your stomach acid. This is actually FALSE. In fact, GERD and acid reflux are NOT associated with low stomach acid. (Do you want more details? In my online program END ACID REFLUX I break down this myth and others in more detail).
While ACV may have some health benefits, it is unlikely to be an effective acid reflux cure – and may makeLPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux) worse – so I don’t recommend it.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is alkaline, which means it can neutralize acid. Some people get quick (but temporary) relief from heartburn, by drinking 1/2 tsp of baking soda dissolved in 4-8oz of water. DO drink it slowly to avoid side effects like gas, bloating and diarrhea.
I never recommend it’s use in children. Also, you should NOT use baking soda regularly or in multiple doses. Too much baking soda can make your body TOO alkaline.
You may get side effects like: stomach cramps, dehydration, impaired absorption of medications or nutrients and more. Less common, but more serious side effects are possible: blood in urine or stool, muscle spasms, difficulty breathing, seizures, severe headaches, edema (swelling), etc. There are a number of conditions and medications with which baking soda should be avoided. I urge you to avoid its use or check with your MD before considering it.
The bottom line: as baking soda may pose greater health risks, I do NOT support it as a long term solution.
