What You Should Know About Me
I am a BEACON for those with Digestive Distress.
But what I’m MOST passionate about is: helping people RECLAIM THEIR LIVES.
You could say that it’s my family’s ORIGINS STORY
My grandfather started a business that my father carried on, manufacturing low volume flush TOILETS for cottages, campers and boats. So my family has always been in the toilet business!
In my teens, my mom was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, and I began to see firsthand how much a digestive disease disrupts your life – and the life of your family. I’m glad to be able to relate to my patients in this way. Additionally, it turns out that IBD and associated autoimmune diseases are pretty common in my family (my Ashkenazi roots are showing). And while I wish I could say they all seek out and follow my advice, a conventional approach is the model most choose to follow. I want to provide engaged and motivated people (like YOU!) with other options that focus on wellness, prevention and the avoidance of drugs when possible.
Find me where FOOD + HEALTH collide
Some years later, I did a stint in chef training and then studied holistic nutrition (I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between food and health). And when I studied the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM…it just CLICKED!
When I went on to naturopathic medical college, that understanding expanded greatly, to include all of the many interactions the digestive system has with virtually EVERY system of the body. I came to know, beyond a shadow of any doubt, that DIGESTIVE HEALTH is the very foundation of long term wellness & prevention.
Put it together & spell: DIGESTION
In twelve years of naturopathic practice, and 20+ years in the fields of food and nutrition, the common thread with the people I’ve helped has always been digestion. No matter who came to see me, my patients almost always had some kind of digestive distress involved – irregular bowel movements, heartburn and reflux, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, haemorrhoids, and the list goes on.
People were coming to see me because they no longer knew what they could eat without making their symptoms worse. They were sick of being bloated all the time and not fitting into their jeans or pants by the end of the day. Their social lives and travel plans were limited by their fear of having “an episode” or not knowing if there would be a bathroom close by. Their heartburn, reflux or abdominal pain was preventing them from sleeping. And for all kinds of other reasons that poor digestive health was negatively impacting their lives.
Some years ago, it became clear to me that I HAD to focus my practice around DIGESTIVE HEALTH. Since then, I’ve pursued advanced training in Naturopathic Gastroenterology, and focus my energy on helping to illuminate the path for people to achieve Digestive Health and the freedom to live fully again.
