Why See an ND?

Why should I see a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are trained to provide thorough assessment and diagnosis, and work to strengthen the body’s organ systems – optimizing wellness and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate.

NDs provide treatment for any number of conditions. However, what we truly excel at is preventative wellness and individualized medicine. For this reason, I often tell my patients that I’m not in the business of treating symptoms and conditions – I’m in the business of treating individuals and returning organ systems to normal functioning.

Most of my patients come to me because they have an existing health concern they’d like addressed. But there’s no need to wait for an illness or condition to arise prior to seeking care. In fact, naturopathy at its best focuses on prevention and health promotion. My goal with patients is to form long term relationships – at first resolving concerns, and then progressing to preventative wellness.

We always put safety first – trained in pharmacology and in drug interactions with nutrients, herbs and other natural health products – NDs are able to safely provide care to those on existing prescription medications. I will not tell you to stop a therapy or medication prescribed to you, but will provide you with information about all known options available, so that you can make informed decisions about your health and your care.

While there are some limitations to our practice (we do not perform surgeries or treat with pharmaceutical drugs), we are always able to provide either primary or supportive care to our patients, and work in cooperation with conventional medical doctors or other allied health care professionals.

The Spirit & Principles of Naturopathy

Naturopathic Medicine acknowledges the body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate. As a Naturopathic Doctor, my approach taps into this innate “body knowledge” by using the gentlest and least invasive means necessary to restore balance in an effective way. I aim to embody the spirit & philosophy of naturopathic medicine.

I offer a holistic approach to wellness; where physical, mental, and intuitive aspects of self are seen as interconnected. My goal is to empower my patients to strive towards balance in all aspects of their lives.

Doctor as teacher (from the Latin docere meaning “to teach”) is a fundamental tenant of Naturopathic Medicine. As such, my goal is not to manage my patients’ health, but rather, to teach my patients how to manage their own health, while offering support and expertise.

The ability to teach relies heavily on one’s ability to learn, and I am therefore committed to the pursuit of lifelong learning, both through my interactions with patients, and through Continuing Education and research initiatives. In kind, I aim to bring you the most up-to-date information and effective treatment options, while adhering to the principles of Naturopathic Medicine.

I believe in the spirit of openness and non-judgement, and pledge to offer care to the best of my abilities, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or political views. I expect to enter into mutually respectful relationships with all of my patients and students.

Naturopathic Doctor’s Oath

I dedicate myself to the service of humanity as a practitioner of the art and science of naturopathic medicine.

By precept, education and example, I will assist and encourage others to strengthen their health, reduce risks for disease, and preserve the health of our planet for ourselves and future generations.

I will continuously endeavour to improve my abilities. I will conduct my life and practice of naturopathic medicine with integrity and freedom from prejudice. I will keep confident what should not be divulged. I will honour the principles of naturopathic medicine:

  • First, do no harm
  • To cooperate with the healing powers of nature
  • To address the fundamental cause of disease
  • To heal the whole person through individualized treatment
  • To teach the principles of healthy living and preventative medicine.

With my whole heart, before these witnesses, as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, I pledge to remain true to this oath.

  • low fibre diet and constipation
  • chronic constipation diet
  • foods for constipation treatment
  • proton pump inhibitors for GERD & LPR
  • real foodie

Which do you choose?

So many come to the sickroom thinking of themselves as men of science fighting disease and not as healers with a little knowledge helping nature to get a sick man well.
